（1）外側に曲げる
“turn out” には、何かを「外側に曲げる」という意味があります。
- I don’t know how ballet dancers turn out their toes like that!
- バレエダンサー達って、どうやってつま先をあんな風に曲げているのか分からないよ！
- While doing this exercise, be careful not to turn out your elbows.
- エクササイズの最中に、肘が外側に向いてしまわないように注意して。
（2）（～という）結果になる
“turn out” には「～という状態になる、～という結果になる」という意味があり、結果的にある特定の状態や結果で終わることを表します。
- This pie turned out great!
- このパイはすごく美味しくできた！
- Did your date turn out OK?
- デートはうまく行った？
- This painting didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to.
- この絵は、自分が思ったようには描けなかった。
- I’m glad everything turned out well for you.
- 全ていい結果になってよかったね。
- I was really excited about that movie before it came out, but it turned out to be a huge flop.
- その映画の公開前はすごく楽しみだったんだけど、いざ蓋を開けてみたらひどい駄作だったよ。
- It turned out that he’d been lying to her about being single.
- 彼は彼女に独身だと嘘をついていたことが判明した。

“come out” も「～という結果になる」という同じような意味で使われますが、”turn out” とは異なり、自分が準備をしてきた物事や自身の言動などの結果について述べる際にのみ使われます。

使いこなす句動詞 “come out”
（3）（照明などを）消す
“turn out” には「（照明などを）消す」という意味があります。この使い方では、“turn out” は ”turn” と ”out” を分けて使うことができ、二通りの言い方ができます。
- Can you turn out the lights?

- 照明を消してくれる？
- I just realized I forgot to turn out the lights!
I just realized I forgot to turn the lights out!
- 電気を消し忘れたことに今気づいた！
（4）集まる
“turn out” には観客や参加者として、会合やイベントなどに「集まる」「参加・出席する」「繰り出す」といった意味もあります。
- So many people turned out! It was crazy!
- すごく沢山の人が集まったんだ！信じられない数だったよ！
- Thousands of her fans turned out to see her perform.
- 何千ものファンが彼女の公演を観ようと集まった。
- How many people do you think will turn out for the conference?
- 会議には何人の人が参加すると思いますか？
- Not as many people turned out for the inauguration this year.
- 今年の就任式には、いつもほどの人数が集まらなかった。

名詞形にした “turnout” は参加者の数を表し、「参会者数、出席者数、人出、投票率」といった意味で使われます。

（5）集まる
“turn out” には、「生産する、作り出す」といった意味があり、たいてい何かを定期的かつ大量に作り出す場面で使われます。
- That little bakery turns out over one thousand pies per day.
- その小さなパン屋では、一日に千個以上パイを作っている。
- That singer is like sixty years old, and he’s still turning out hits!
- その歌手は60歳かそこらだけど、今でもヒット曲を作り続けているんだよ！
- Their factories couldn’t turn out enough units to meet our needs.
- 彼らの工場では、我々のニーズを満たすのに十分なユニット数の製品を生産することができなかった。
- That university turns out a lot of competent graduates.
