誰かから仕事や責任、権力を「引き継ぐ」は、“take over” が使われます。ジェシカのセリフも以下のように表現できます。

“I took over some tasks from my colleague, but they are really boring.”
（同僚から仕事を引き継いだけど、退屈だ。）

“She will take over the company after the CEO retires.”
（CEOの退職後は、彼女が会社を引き継ぐ予定だ。）

同じく “succeed” も「（～から）引き継ぐ」という意味で使われます。こちらはよりフォーマルな表現で、例えば大統領やCEOといった重要なポストを引き継ぐような場面で用いられます。

“She will succeed the CEO next spring.”
（来年の春に、彼女がCEOの座を引き継ぐでしょう。）

“The eldest son will succeed to the throne when the King dies.”
（王が亡くなったときには、長男が王位を継承する。）

他にも、”hand over” も「引き継ぐ」と訳すことができますが、こちらは「（～に）引き継ぐ」という意味で使われます。

“I handed over all my contacts to the new sales manager before I moved to the HR department.”
（人事部に異動する時に、全ての連絡先を営業部長に引き継いだ。）

“This department will be handed over once the manager leaves.”
（この部署は、部長が退職をしたら引き渡される。）
