Tiana:Ready to hit the road?
Brian:Yep, let me just grab my keys and… Oh no.
Tiana:What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!
Brian:I lost the tickets! I just had them ten minutes ago!
Tiana:You lost the tickets? Where did you see them last?
Brian:I put them in my coat pocket, but they’re not here! What are we going to do?
Tiana:OK, don’t lose your cool. We’ve been here the whole time, so they couldn’t be far.
Brian:You’re right. Let’s look for them.
Tiana:I’ll look in here. You check the kitchen, OK?
Brian:OK. We’ve got to find those tickets! Turn the room upside down if you have to.
[Brian leaves]
Brian:Yep, let me just grab my keys and… Oh no.
Tiana:What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost!
Brian:I lost the tickets! I just had them ten minutes ago!
Tiana:You lost the tickets? Where did you see them last?
Brian:I put them in my coat pocket, but they’re not here! What are we going to do?
Tiana:OK, don’t lose your cool. We’ve been here the whole time, so they couldn’t be far.
Brian:You’re right. Let’s look for them.
Tiana:I’ll look in here. You check the kitchen, OK?
Brian:OK. We’ve got to find those tickets! Turn the room upside down if you have to.
[Brian leaves]
Tiana:Oh, here they are! They fell under the couch.
Tiana:出かける準備オッケー？
Brian:うん、鍵取ってくるから… やばい。
Tiana:どうしたの？幽霊でも見たような顔してるわよ！
Brian:チケットがない！10分前にはあったのに！
Tiana:なくしたの？どこで最後に見たの？
Brian:コートのポケットに入れたんだけど、ここにはないんだよ。どうしよう？
Tiana:大丈夫よ、落ち着いて。私たちずっとここにいたんだから、ここのどこかにあることは間違いないんだから。
Brian:そうだね。探してみよう。
Tiana:私はこの部屋を探すわ。キッチンを見てきてもらってもいい？
Brian:わかった。あのチケットはなんとしても見つけないと。必要なら、部屋を隅から隅まで探して。
[Brianは部屋を出て行く]
Brian:うん、鍵取ってくるから… やばい。
Tiana:どうしたの？幽霊でも見たような顔してるわよ！
Brian:チケットがない！10分前にはあったのに！
Tiana:なくしたの？どこで最後に見たの？

Tiana:あっ、あったわ！ソファーの下に落ちてるわ。
キーフレーズ
“hit the road” 出発する
これは家から出かけることや旅に出ることを意味するくだけた表現で、特に車で出かける際によく使われます。
例）Aaronと妻のKarenはこれから新居に引っ越しをするところです。
Aaron:Whew! The car’s all packed. Are you sure you’re ready to say goodbye to this old place?
Karen:Yep. I’ve already said my goodbyes. I guess it’s time to hit the road!
Aaron:やれやれ。荷物は全部車に載せたよ。この場所とお別れする準備はいいかな？
Karen:うん、もうさよならは言ったわ。じゃあ、そろそろ出発かな。
Aaron:Whew! The car’s all packed. Are you sure you’re ready to say goodbye to this old place?

“look like one has seen a ghost” 幽霊でも見たかのように
これは非常に驚いたり、強い恐怖を感じている様子を言い表すために使われる表現です。
例）Cindyと兄のRalph が空港で搭乗手続きをしようとしています。
Ralph:Is everything OK? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.
Cindy:I think I left my ticket in the taxi!
Ralph:大丈夫かよ？お化けでも見たような顔してるけど。
Cindy:タクシーに置いてきちゃったかも、チケット！
Ralph:Is everything OK? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.
Cindy:I think I left my ticket in the taxi!
Ralph:大丈夫かよ？お化けでも見たような顔してるけど。

“lose one’s cool” 取り乱す
これは冷静さを失い、感情をコントロールできなくなってしまうことを意味する表現です。この表現とは反対に冷静さを保つことを言う際には“keep one’s cool”という言い方をします。
例）Lillian がボードゲームで友人のKevinに勝ったところです。
Kevin:Seriously? That has to be against the rules! There’s no way you can take all of my pieces in one go!
Lillian:[laughs] Ah, come on. It’s not worth losing your cool over. Let’s play one more game!
Kevin:マジで？そんなのルール違反だよ。一度に全部のコマを取れるなんてありえないよ！
Lillian:[笑いながら] まあ、落ち着いてよ。そんなに取り乱すようなことじゃないでしょ。もう1回やりましょう。
Kevin:Seriously? That has to be against the rules! There’s no way you can take all of my pieces in one go!
Lillian:[laughs] Ah, come on. It’s not worth losing your cool over. Let’s play one more game!

Lillian:[笑いながら] まあ、落ち着いてよ。そんなに取り乱すようなことじゃないでしょ。もう1回やりましょう。
“turn～ upside down” ～をくまなく探す
この表現はなくしてしまったものなどを見つけるために、特定の場所をくまなく探すことを意味します。文字通りの意味は「～（場所など）をひっくり返す」で、それぐらい徹底的に探すことを意味しています。
例）Philipは友人のSarahがなくしてしまったイヤリングを探すのを手伝っています。
Sarah:Are you sure you didn’t see it anywhere?
Philip:I’m afraid so… We turned the place upside down and we didn’t see your earring anywhere.
Sarah:本当にどこにもないの？
Philip:なさそうだな… 隅から隅まで探したけど、イヤリングはどこにも見当たらないな。
