Kelly: Hey, Gina, I’m baking cookies for Valentine’s Day!
Gina: Why don’t you just buy some at the store?
Kelly: No way! A little birdie told me Troy likes homemade gifts…
Gina: Troy? I thought you liked that other guy, Dan?
Kelly: Dan is yesterday’s news. Troy is much cuter!
Gina: OK… but I’m not sure Troy will like these cookies.
Kelly: Why? What’s wrong with my cookies?
Gina: Well… they’re pretty burnt around the edges.
Kelly: Thank you, Captain Obvious. I can see that. They’ll be fine.
Gina: I don’t think they’ll taste particularly nice.
Kelly: Stop acting all high and mighty. I’ve never seen you bake cookies.
Gina: I wouldn’t. I’d just buy a box of nice ones.

キーフレーズ
“A little birdie told me” ある人から聞いた
ある情報や噂などについて、その出所を明らかにしないで相手に伝えたい場合に使われる表現です。
例）Emileと友人のJasmineがある噂を耳にしました。
Emile: Jim and Sandy are getting a divorce? How do you know?
Jasmine: Well, a little birdie told me…
Emile: JimとSandyが離婚する？どうやって知ったんだよ？
Jasmine: うん、ちょっとある人から聞いてね…

“yesterday’s news” もう興味がないもの／人
すでに興味や関心が持てなくなったものや人に対して使われる表現です。
例）Beckyが姉のGiseleにパーティーに着て行くドレスのことで相談しています。
Becky: How about this red one?
Gisele: No way! Red is so yesterday’s news.
Becky: この赤いのなんてどうかしら？
Gisele: 無理！赤なんてもう誰も見向きもしないわよ。

“Thank you, Captain Obvious” 明白なことをわざわざ言わないで
誰の目にも明白なことや言われなくてもわかっているようなことをわざわざ言った相手に対して皮肉を込めて使われる表現です。
例）あるコンベンションに出席する予定のGaryとJosephが「コンベンションセンター」と書かれた看板の前にいます。
Gary: Hey, I think this is the convention center.
Joseph: Thank you, Captain Obvious.
Gary: なあ、ここがコンベンションセンターだと思うんだけど。
Joseph: ありがとな。でも見ればわかること、わざわざ言うなよ。

“act (all) high and mighty” 高飛車な態度を取る
人よりも重要な人物であるかのように振舞ったり、より多くの知識を持っているかのように振舞うことを意味するフレーズです。
例）RhiannonとボーイフレンドのAhmedがAhmedの同僚の話をしています。
Rhiannon: I thought you and Thomas get along? What happened?
Ahmed: He used to be a nice guy, but ever since he got a promotion he’s been acting all high and mighty.
Rhiannon: あなたとThomasって、仲がいいのかと思ってた。何があったの？
Ahmed: 前はいいやつだったけど、昇進してから高飛車な態度が鼻につくんだよね。
Rhiannon: I thought you and Thomas get along? What happened?
