Evan: All right, we’re going to the playoffs!
Patrick: What’s going on?
Evan: The Bluefins, they just clinched their division.
Patrick: Dude, you know I’m not that into baseball so I have no idea what you’re saying.
Evan: It means that the Bluefins are the division champions for the regular season. So they go on to the next round to play against other division champions.
Patrick: Oh, I see. That’s cool man.
Evan: Well, they just blew away the competition this year.
Patrick: Yeah, I think I heard they’ve been having a really good season.
Evan: The best! Basically, no one else stood a chance.
Patrick: How do you think they’ll do in the playoffs? Can they make it to the finals?
Evan: Definitely, they’ve got this in the bag.
Patrick: What’s going on?

Evan: 今年はぶっちぎりの優勝だったんだよ。
Patrick: そういえば、今シーズンはすごくよかったって、誰か言ってたな。
Evan: 最高さ。まあ、簡単に言うと他のチームに勝ち目はぜんぜんなかったってこと。
Patrick: プレーオフはどうだと思う？最後まで残れると思う？
Evan: もちろん。もう優勝を手中に収めたも同然だよ。
Patrick: 何がどうしたって？
Evan: Bluefinsさ。地区優勝したんだよ。
Patrick: おい、俺が野球に興味ないの知ってるよな。お前の言ってることぜんぜん意味わかんないんだけど。

キーフレーズ
“clinch ～” ～（決勝ラウンド進出など）を決める
特にスポーツで優勝やタイトル獲得などが確定することを意味する表現です。
例）Aliceがあるニュースについて夫のRalphに話しています。
Alice: I heard that some hockey fans got rowdy last night and damaged public property.
Ralph: They must be pretty excited that their team clinched the division for the first time in a decade.
Alice: 昨日ホッケーファンが暴れて、公共の物を壊したりしたらしいわよ。
Ralph: 10年ぶりの地区優勝だから、相当盛り上がってたんだろうな。

“blow away the competition” 圧勝する
スポーツなどで容易、そして大差をつけて勝利したり優勝することを表します。
例）バスケットボールチームの監督がスター選手のAndrewを激励しています。
Coach: Let’s blow away the competition! I want you to go out there and score 50 points tonight.
Andrew: You got it, Coach.
Coach: 圧勝するぞ。お前には50点は入れてもらうからな。
Andrew: わかりました、監督。

“stand a chance (of～)” 勝機がある／（～の）見込みがある
スポーツの試合などに勝てる可能性があること、ある事柄に成功できる見込みがあることを表すフレーズです。
例）Melissaは同じ陸上チームのJoanと話しています。
Melissa: I can’t believe I have to race against the best sprinter in the league. I don’t stand a chance.
Joan: Just try your best. Maybe you’ll get second place!
Melissa: 信じられない。リーグで一番速い選手と走ることになっちゃったわ。勝てっこないわよ。
Joan: それでもあなたのベストを尽くすの。たぶん2位には入れるわ。
Melissa: I can’t believe I have to race against the best sprinter in the league. I don’t stand a chance.

自分にとって好ましい結果になることを確信していることを意味する表現です。
例）Betty が息子のBobbyの部屋に様子を見に来ました。
Betty: Why are you playing video games? You should be studying for your test tomorrow.
Bobby: Don’t worry, Mom, it’s in the bag.
Betty: なんでテレビゲームなんてしてるの？明日のテストの勉強しなきゃでしょ。
Bobby: 大丈夫だって。いい点取れるの確実だから。
Betty: Why are you playing video games? You should be studying for your test tomorrow.
Bobby: Don’t worry, Mom, it’s in the bag.
Betty: なんでテレビゲームなんてしてるの？明日のテストの勉強しなきゃでしょ。
