Molly: The fireworks are going to start in 30 minutes. Let’s get some food and find a nice spot!
Dylan: Sounds good! What do you want to eat?
Molly: I can’t decide! I’ll leave it to you.
Dylan: Hmm… How about we get yakisoba and takoyaki?
Molly: Oh yeah, I think that would really hit the spot!
Dylan: OK, I’ll go buy it.

キーフレーズ
“leave (something) to (someone)” ～を…に任せる
ある事柄を決めたり、複数の選択肢から選ぶ際などに、その決定や選択をto以下に示される人に委ねることを意味する表現です。
例）OmarとAlexisがDVDを借りようとしています。
Omar: OK, what do you want to watch?
Alexis: I’ll leave it to you! I’m terrible at picking movies.
Omar: さてと、何見たい？
Alexis: 任せるよ、映画選びは苦手だから。

“hit the spot” 申し分ない
ある食べ物や飲み物などがまさに自分の望んでいるものであるときや、その状況にふさわしいものであるときに使われる表現です。
例）AlanとKirstenがカフェでデザートを食べています。
Alan: I’m so glad we ordered the tiramisu!
Kirsten: Yeah, this really hits the spot.
Alan: ティラミス頼んでよかった！
Kirsten: そうね、これこそ私が食べたかったものよ。

“(one’s) eyes are bigger than (one’s) stomach” 食べ切れないほど欲しがる
自分が実際に食べられる以上の料理を取ったり、注文したりすることを意味する表現です。
例）Gavinが兄のTobyと一緒に夕食を食べています。
Gavin: Wow, I’m so full. I can’t finish this.

Gavin: うわ、お腹いっぱいだな。これ食べ切れないよ。
Toby: またいつもみたいに、食べ切れないほど取ってるし。

“stuff (one’s) face” がつがつ食べる
料理などを大量に食べることを意味するカジュアルな表現です。
例）ShannonはいとこのDanielleと一緒にビュッフェで食事をするところです。

Danielle: I know! I can’t wait to stuff my face!
Shannon: みてこの料理！いろいろあって、選び放題ね！
Danielle: 本当！早く思う存分食べたいわ！
