英語で「長所（短所）／強み（弱み）」は、“strong point (weak point)” や “strength (weakness)” を使って表現することができます。どちらの表現も基本的には同じ意味で、さまざまな場面で人やものなどに対して使うことができます。

strong point / weak point

“strong point” は「長所、強み」、”weak point” は「短所、弱点、欠点」という意味です。

ジョンのセリフも以下のように表現できます。

“There are more strong points than weak points, but we still need to improve on the weak points.”
（長所のほうが短所よりも多いが、それでも短所を改善する必要がある。）

また ”point”「点」という表現が含まれていることから、「優れている点」や、「弱点、欠点」などを具体的に指摘するときに使われる傾向もあります。

“The weak point in their security is the back door.”
(ここのセキュリティーの弱点は裏口にある。)

strength / weakness

“strength” は「力、強さ」などという意味でよく使われますが、「長所、強み」という意味でも使われる表現です。”weakness” も「弱さ、弱いこと」という意味がありますが、「弱点、欠点」という意味でも使われます。

“You’ll do better if you play to your strengths.”
（君の長所を活かせればきっとうまくいくよ。）

また ”weakness” は、「とても好きなもの、大好物」という意味でも使うことができます。

“Chocolate is my weakness.”
（チョコレートには目がないの。）
